Solid hardcover.; German language translation of two works by Catholic priest and emigre Russian aristocrat Prince Gallitzin, who founded the first English-speaking Catholic community west of the Allegheny Mountains, Loretto, Pennsylvania. Gallitzin wrote these tracts in defence of Catholicism in reaction to the popularity of anti-Catholic public sentiment in the United States. The translation was by German Catholic priest Peter Henry Lemcke, who served as an assistant to Gallitzin and later his biographer.
