"In 1894 Adolf Menzel was appointed to a full professorship for Austrian administrative law and administrative theory. In his academic work, he dealt primarily with historical and philosophical border areas of general state theory, so that his professorship was later expanded to include general and Austrian constitutional law. He made a special contribution to studies on political philosophers of antiquity (Protagoras, Kallikes and Heraclitus) and the early modern period (Spinoza, Machiavelli). In his extremely varied work, he also paid special attention to the references of state theory to psychology and sociology, which he also worked out in historical source studies.
