Boit graduated Harvard in 1868 and moved to reconstruction era Savannah with his businessman father. He returned to Boston in 1878, and published this novel of a Northerner in the post-war South in 1884. Among the plot points are a confrontation between white voters and armed freedmen attempting to disinfranchise the whites, and the Yankee narrator being rejected by his love interest due to antipathies from the Civil War. An interesting portrayal of early Reconstruction Era social relations between upper class friends from North and South. ; 360 pages.
