Spine edges rubbed, light tone, number on title page, otherwise light wear. Solid hardcover. ; Later three-quarter leather binding with bindery stamp "Nor-Rem Binding." Swinburne had sent "Siena" to America for publishing in the June 1868 edition of Lippincott's Magazine, and a few copies were printed as a pamphlet in London just before that date to preserve the English copyright. J B Lippincott printed this first American edition that same year. The pagination makes it clear that it is not an off-print. The poem later was reprinted as part of Songs before Sunrise (1871) where some of its prose notes were omitted. Quite uncommon early edition of Swinburne's poetry. ; 24 pages.
