Montreal: The Midgets Palace, 1920.

Illustrated by Illustrated. Pamphlet. Good+ with no dust jacket. Item #16510

Cover tone and light edgewear, owner's note on front cover, otherwise light wear. Solid paperback stapled pamphlet. ; Early pamphlet for The Midgets Palace home of Count and Countess Philip Nicol. Undated, but owner's note on front cover reads: "We went on excursion tour from Balto. Md. [Baltimore, Maryland] Oct 11-25 to Montreal Canada. Had a wonderful time." Philippe Adélard Nicol was born in 1881 and originally toured with Barnum & Bailey before settling in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was introduced to Rose Dufresne, a small person born in 1887, and they married there in 1906. The couple moved to Montreal in 1913, where they later opened their Midgets Palace at 415 Rachel Street, apparently circa 1920. They remained there until 1926, when they moved to 961 Rachel Street and welcomed the birth of their son, Philip Jr. Philip Nicol was a showman and a businessman, and maintained a successful tourist attraction where they lived their lives on display in small rooms with miniature furniture, designed to make the visitors feel like giants. A fascinating tourist pamphlet capturing the unique method the Nicols created to earn a living without touring as part of a freak show. ; 16 pages.
