Book of Valuable Receipts [Arm & Hammer]

New York: Church & Co, 1897.

Illustrated by Illustrated. 27th Edition. Pamphlet. Good with no dust jacket. Item #16528

Corner chipping, hole punched with string, top corner creasing, otherwise light wear. Solid paperback stapled pamphlet. ; Arm & Hammer baking soda advertising pamphlet with 1897 and half of 1898 calendar, stated 27th edition. Housekeeing advice and baking recipe book, urging the substitution of Arm & Hammer baking soda instead of baking powder. Baking soda was first marketed by brothers-in-law Dr Austin Church and John Dwight. After Church's retirement in 1867, his sons started Church & Co and used the Arm and Hammer name and logo. The Book of Valuable Receipts was first published in 1878. In 1896, Church & Company and John Dwight & Company officially merged to form Church & Dwight Co., Inc. The newly merged company continued to manufacture their branded Arm & Hammer Baking Soda but reportedly discontinued distribution under the name Dwight's Saleratus around this time. This 27th edition for 1897 was likely printed before the merger as it retains the Church & Co name and also includes mention of Dwight's Saleratus. An uncommon and interesting advertising brochure at a milestone in Arm and Hammer history. ; 32 pages.
