Spiral binding gone and loosely replaced by shoe lace, edgeworn, spiral holes mostly broken on front cover, light text soil, 1949 gift inscription on title page, otherwise light wear. ; The 1949 edition has fewer pages and animations than the 1943 first thus edition, but has red ink tiger inside the book covers. All four tab animations intact and working. "This book retains Helen Bannerman’s original text, but it includes new moveable illustrations that can be manipulated by moving pull tabs. The illustrations transform the characters into Black caricatures with enormous white eyes and mouths. Notably, the family also lives in a grass hut, evoking a distinctly African setting. The moveable components also contribute to the book’s troubling portrayal of the characters. During one confrontation with a tiger, ... the weeping Sambo fall to his knees – a gesture not included in Bannerman’s illustrations that emphasizes the boy’s powerlessness and submission.
