With a few exceptions these are not mansions. They are the dwellings of people from simple walks of life, people who worked and struggled to maintain their modest homes, and in the process contributed to the vitality and growth of their community. ... In this report the first chapter contains a brief description of the area which was studied. In the second chapter an explanation is offered of how the volunteer program of research operated. Chapter III includes a discussion of the sources of information which contributed to the study and Chapter IV, which comprises the body of the volume, contains individual reports of each of the structures which was studied. ... Chapter V contains a summary of the report and some conclusions which evolved as a result of the study. In the final chapter are acknowledgements of the many contributors to the report.
