The 109th Field Artillery was deployed to France as part of Pennsylvania's 28th Division, "The Bloody Bucket." Edited translation of Instruction sur le Tir d'Artillerie, "published for the information and guidance of all concerned, as basic regulations in artillery firing. ... While a relatively large amount of the text is devoted to the complexities and refinements incident to position warfare, the rapid, approximate methods of ope warfare must not be neglected. The artillery must be able to adapt its methods to the situation. Otherwise it cannot hope to meet the demands which can reasonably be made upon it."
