Scarce first Elzevir printing, complete in 8 books; ref Berghman 579. No errata present. Not in Garrison and Morton, although Jonston's earlier Thaumatographia naturalis is # 287. Translated into English in 1657 by Nicholas Culpeper as The Idea Of Practical Physick, Wing STC 1018. A well regarded physician and naturalist, Jonston was Polish-born of Scottish immigrants. A Calvinist, he studied at St Andrew's,Cambridge and Leidin, received his MD from Leiden in 1634, and spent most of his life practicing and teaching in Poland.
